This week’s tune snuck up on me. I’ve never heard of Electric Guest, had no clue they existed. Then, this morning while trolling the webs on my daily train commute, I caught a whiff of a new Danger Mouse project…
It sort of sounds like what would happen if you put Benny Sings, Norah Jones and a 70s train station busker in a blender with a shot of bourbon.
I’m a big fan of the funky rodent, and his prints can be heard all over the band’s first two records, but especially on This Head I Hold. It’s a little vintage, a little pop, a little soul and a lot catchy cool. If you’re a fan of the Amy Winehouse sound, then this should be right up your alley.
Having Danger Mouse on board to handle the production duties certainly won’t hurt the band, but the melodies and riffs are all solid enough to convince me that these guys are more than just the standard tag along affair. The Electric Guest sound is indie folk tangled with some 70s textures and very simple, sticky melodies. It sort of sound like what would happen if you put Benny Sings, Norah Jones and a 70s train station busker in a blender with a shot of bourbon.
