I’ve made a commitment to write more this year and have spent some time thinking about WHAT I will be writing. Even some time on WHY I will be writing ( and whom for).

But today I was pondering HOW I want to write.

Here’s my first stab at it. 🔪

Game Recognize Game

I should always show my work and point to influences or sources. Don’t pretend I came up with an idea if I didn’t.

I really dislike it when people make a post / article / video about something they read or heard somewhere and then don’t give any attribution. It seems scammy and slimy.

Include Data wherever I can

I don’t like straight up opinion pieces. I want something concrete to help me believe it. That doesn’t mean no opinions or theories, but where I have opinions, these should be explicitly expressed for what they are - my wild ass guesses based on the limited knowledge and experience I have.

Show, don’t tell

I will try to find images to back up points being made. Video can work too (and often even better).

Sense paragraphs can be hard to parse.

I’m realizing as I write this, that this post has no images…

TikTok can do its thing over there. Chasing the new shiny is not for me or why I want to write.

Be timeless

I think it would be cool to see how far back I can go to find an old idea that is still relevant now.

10 years is cool. 100 years is awesome. When I do find something, I should try to give recent context and examples to support these times ideas.

Give away secrets

It doesn’t matter if anyone knows how I do stuff. I’m not that important. The point is to spread knowledge, not hoard it.

Write like I talk.

Ok. That’s what I have for now.

I’ll probably come back to this post over time to update it as I give this more thought. It should be an interesting living document.

Lester.
